Who Is Medimate For?

Non-medical support for appointments when it matters most.

Medimate is for individuals and families who need dependable, non-medical companionship during hospital and clinic appointments.

Older Adults

Attending Appointments with Confidence

Medimate is for older adults attending clinic or hospital appointments who would benefit from a calm, familiar presence for practical support โ€” someone to help navigate the visit, not to manage medical decisions.

  • Assistance with registration, forms and queuing
  • Familiar, respectful presence throughout the visit
  • Support with hospital or clinic navigation
Families

Booking Support for a Parent or Loved One

If you cannot attend your parent's or loved one's appointment in person, Medimate allows you to arrange non-medical companionship on their behalf. Receive authorised appointment updates through the app.

  • Book on behalf of a family member
  • Receive in-app updates where authorised
  • Non-medical role only โ€” for clinical decisions, consult the attending doctor
Individuals

Attending Appointments Alone

Going to a hospital or clinic by yourself can be difficult to navigate โ€” especially for unfamiliar facilities, longer visits or situations where practical assistance would help. A Companion handles the non-medical logistics.

  • Practical support from arrival to completion
  • Non-clinical note-taking with consent
  • Help with registration, directions and waiting
Navigation Challenges

Navigating Unfamiliar Healthcare Settings

Not everyone is equally comfortable navigating a hospital or clinic environment โ€” whether due to unfamiliarity with the setting, language differences or difficulty following multi-step appointment processes.

  • Support with directions, counters and waiting areas
  • Assistance with forms and registration procedures
  • Calm, patient presence throughout the visit

Find yourself or someone you care for in one of these situations?

Malaysia's Ageing Population

Built for Malaysia's Ageing Future

2.7M

In 2025, approximately 2.7 million people in Malaysia โ€” 8.0% of the population โ€” were aged 65 and above.

Source: Department of Statistics Malaysia, Current Population Estimates 2025.

As Malaysia moves towards an aged society, families and communities will need more age-friendly services that support dignity, independence and access to everyday appointments.

Medimate was created to address one specific gap: practical, non-medical companionship for people attending hospital and clinic appointments when a family member cannot be present.

How Medimate Was Shaped

Research-Informed from the Beginning

Medimate was shaped through founder-led qualitative research, community observations and social listening around the challenges people face when attending medical appointments.

Recurring concerns included older parents attending alone, working family members being unable to accompany them, difficulties navigating healthcare settings and the need for dependable non-medical support.

This represents qualitative discovery โ€” not a nationally representative survey. Findings informed Medimate's service design direction.

Accountability by Design

Built for Trust, Not Just Convenience

Identifying the need was only the beginning. Medimate is also being designed to provide clearer accountability, transparency and support when appointment companionship does not go as planned โ€” from a Companion who is late or cancels, to a safety concern that needs to be escalated.

Verified and Prepared

Companions are required to complete identity verification, declarations, structured training and Medimate's approval process before activation. Completion of training alone does not guarantee platform activation.

Clear Boundaries

What a Companion may and may not do is clearly defined, communicated to Companions and users, and built into the platform's design where applicable. Companions operate in a strictly non-medical role.

Transparent Records

Booking information, session details and authorised updates are designed to be traceable through the platform, helping provide a structured process and reduce uncertainty for all parties where implemented.

Support and Accountability

Medimate is designed to provide a structured process for concerns, complaints and escalations โ€” including late arrivals, cancellations, safety incidents and payment disagreements โ€” where applicable.

Role Clarity

Clear Non-Medical Boundaries

Medimate is designed around what Companions may reasonably assist with โ€” and what is clearly outside the companion role.

What Companions May Assist With
  • Appointment registration
  • Hospital or clinic navigation
  • Waiting support
  • Basic form assistance
  • Practical communication support
  • Non-clinical note-taking where authorised
  • Authorised family updates
  • Reminders of information already given by healthcare staff
What Companions Do Not Provide
  • Medical advice
  • Nursing care
  • Medication administration
  • Medical decision-making
  • Lifting or physical transfers
  • Toileting, bathing, feeding or dressing
  • Emergency transport
  • Diagnosis or treatment
  • Management of medical equipment
Structured Training Programme

Prepared Through Structured Training

Companions must complete Medimate's onboarding, required declarations, training and approval process before activation on the platform.

01

Communication Skills

Clear, respectful interaction with patients, families, and hospital staff throughout the visit.

02

Professional Conduct

Understanding boundaries, maintaining appropriate conduct, and fulfilling companion responsibilities with care.

03

Patient Support Awareness

Recognising patient needs, managing anxiety, and providing calm, reassuring presence at every stage.

04

Hospital Navigation Awareness

Familiarity with registration counters, appointment queues, wards, pharmacies, and typical hospital workflows.

05

Confidentiality & PDPA Awareness

Handling patient information responsibly and in compliance with Malaysia's Personal Data Protection Act.

06

Knowing when and how to escalate a situation โ€” including contacting family members and notifying hospital staff.

Important: Medimate companions are not healthcare professionals. Training prepares companions for appointment support roles โ€” not for medical care, clinical tasks, or emergency response. All companions are subject to Medimate's screening and approval process prior to activation. Completion of training does not automatically guarantee activation on the platform.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything You Need to Know

Have a question not listed here? Email us or Chat on WhatsApp

A Medimate Companion accompanies you โ€” or your loved one โ€” to a clinic or hospital appointment. They help with registration, navigation, paperwork and queuing, and can take non-clinical notes during the consultation (with consent). If you have booked on behalf of a family member, appointment updates are synchronised through the Medimate application where authorised. Companions provide non-medical support only.

Companions do not provide medical advice, diagnoses, or treatment. They do not administer medication, perform any clinical tasks, lift or transfer patients, assist with personal care (toileting, bathing, dressing or feeding), or act as emergency responders. Medimate is a non-medical companion platform โ€” for any medical concerns, please consult a qualified healthcare professional.

Some Medimate Companions may have a nursing or healthcare background. However, when providing services through Medimate, they operate strictly in a non-medical companion role. Companions do not provide medical advice, diagnosis, treatment, nursing care, or clinical services during the appointment. For medical care and clinical decisions, please consult the attending healthcare professional.

Yes. Medimate allows family members to book a Companion on behalf of a parent or loved one. You can enter the appointment details and the person being accompanied, and where authorised, receive in-app appointment updates during the visit. A Companion will accompany your parent through registration, navigation, waiting and the appointment โ€” providing non-medical support throughout. For clinical matters, your parent should continue to rely on the attending doctor and healthcare team.

Medimate Companions are required to complete a structured onboarding and training programme delivered in collaboration with our Official Training Partner, CoreLife Training & Consultancy Sdn. Bhd. Training covers communication skills, professional conduct, patient support awareness, hospital navigation, PDPA confidentiality, and emergency escalation procedures. Registered nurses holding a valid APC complete a 1-day refresher programme; all other candidates complete a 2-day programme. Completion of training does not automatically guarantee activation. All Companions are subject to Medimate's independent screening and approval process, and activation is at Medimate's discretion.

Companion services start from RM40 per hour. A Companion + Transport option is planned for a future phase and is not currently available. There are no hidden fees โ€” all charges are shown upfront before you confirm a booking.

No. Medimate does not currently provide transport. The current service options โ€” Meet at Hospital and Meet at Home โ€” do not include transport. Users and Booking Recipients are responsible for arranging their own transport to and from the appointment. A Companion + Transport service concept is planned for Phase 2, subject to applicable regulatory, licensing, safety and operational requirements. There is no confirmed launch date for transport services at this time.

Medimate is launching its pilot first across Klang Valley, with initial coverage across Kuala Lumpur, Petaling Jaya, Subang Jaya, Shah Alam, Cheras, Ampang, and surrounding areas. Exact service availability within Klang Valley will depend on companion availability in your area at the time of booking. Expansion to additional cities is planned for a future phase.

Medimate is designed to provide a structured process for situations where a Companion is late, cancels, or does not appear. We are developing clear policies covering cancellations, late arrivals, no-shows and rebooking, so that users and Booking Recipients are not left without recourse. Details of the cancellation and escalation process will be published before launch. For Early Access registrants, updates will be shared as these policies are finalised.

Medimate Companions are trained in emergency escalation procedures โ€” including how to alert hospital staff and contact the emergency contact provided at the time of booking. Companions are not emergency responders and do not provide first aid, clinical intervention, or emergency transport. In a medical emergency, the Companion's role is to alert hospital staff and the emergency contact immediately. Medimate is not an emergency service. If you or your loved one requires emergency medical care, please call 999 or contact the nearest hospital directly.

Yes โ€” if you book on behalf of a family member through the Medimate application, appointment updates and booking information are designed to be synchronised in-app where authorised, allowing you to follow the visit without needing to be present. An emergency contact is required for every booking and will be accessible to your Companion during the appointment. Companions share logistical updates only โ€” not clinical information from the healthcare team.

Medimate's cancellation and refund terms are set out in the Refund & Cancellation Policy. As Medimate is currently in its pre-launch Early Access phase, the full booking and cancellation process will be communicated to registered users ahead of the pilot launch. If you have questions about cancellations or refunds before launch, please contact us at hello@medimate.com.my.
